The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is the first of a planned trilogy of novels that eventually expanded to five books. Originally a BBC radio show, the novel is a comedy centered on the everyman persona of Arthur Dent, a simple Englishman who becomes involved with a bizarre series of characters and events across the galaxy. The novel became a fixture of geek culture, and was adapted to many different media. The eponymous guidebook is the most popular in the galaxy, and features a large "Don't Panic" button on the cover.
This book is also contained in The Ultimate Hitchhiker's Guide.

| 7 / 10 | Threlicus | Enjoyable and a classic humor book -- but I don't like outright overtly humorous stuff as much as some apparently do. |
| 10 / 10 | Pseudo Nymh | Funny, intellingent and compelling...no other novel has achieved the perfection of this one (in my mind, anyway). Makes you laugh, makes you think, makes you rethink your ideas about life, the universe and everything. This is on my short list of novels everyone on the planet should read. Heck, it's probably at the top of that list. |
