Theoretically a "midquel" to Ender's Game, set between chapters 14 and 15. However, this book also picks up plot threads from the Ender's Shadow series, and is set after those books.
In this picaresque novel, Ender finishes his days near Earth, wars with an Admiral for control of Colony One, finds the remnants of the buggers, and searches for Bean's last child.
Among its piecemeal cobblings are two short stories previously published on their own ("Ender's Homecoming" and "Young Man with Prospects") and most of a third ("Gold Bug").

| 3 / 10 | ShannonA | I love seeing Ender and Valentine again, but this book is poorly conceived and poorly executed. It doesn't hang together and thus doesn't really work anywhere in the Ender sequence. Most of it is additionally pretty dull. I'd expect better from an inexperienced writer hacking out his first novel. Nonetheless, you'll like it if you want to see more of Ender's Universe. |
