Book Summary
Lord of Light is widely regarded as Roger Zelazny's masterpiece. Like many of his other works, the protagonist is clever, cunning, and earthy; a man's man. Yet unlike his other stories, Zelazny draws his primary inspiration from non-Western sources. The world is set in the far future, and is ruled by a caste who take on the role, serial immortality, and powers, of gods from Hindu mythology. Replete with references to the Ramayana and the Mahabharata, the protagonist rebels against his fellow "gods", and wages a generations-long war of cultural sabotage against the forces of Heaven.
